Wills, Probate & Trusts

The benefits of drawing up a will are widely recognised as this allows you to make provision for the winding up of your affairs after death.

A written will has advantages for those who find themselves administering your estate and also gives you peace of mind knowing that you have selected as your executors the appropriate individuals best suited to the role. As such, our Wills, Probate and Trusts department is able to provide comprehensive advice to the private client with a knowledgeable and personal approach. Our team can help with succession and tax planning and making sure that you preserve your assets by minimising any taxes payable.

The Administration of Estates

Administering an estate involves dealing with all property, investments and other assets of the person who has died and settling their tax and other liabilities and then distributing the estate between the beneficiaries entitled under the deceased’s Will or in accordance with the intestacy rules. The burden of administering an estate and complying with all the legal requirements can be a very daunting task for anybody particularly at a distressing time following the death of a close relative.

The specialist Private Client Department at Thomas Flavell & Sons has considerable experience in dealing with these matters and they will be able to guide and assist you on all the different aspects of administering an estate to whatever extent you require.

Why make a Trust?

Throughout their history trusts have been used to avoid or address problems in two main areas: taxation and domestic matters.

In your lifetime you can create a trust into which you can place chosen assets which you no longer need yourself. This reduces your own wealth and thus your exposure to Inheritance Tax.

For every family problem or situation there is a trust that can be constructed to suit the need. Creating the right type of trust to match your particular situation requires specialist help.
